As part of the National Commercial Bank's mantra of building a better Jamaica, NCB Foundation's scholarship recipients recently led a massive painting project at the St. Anne's Primary School. NCB Staff members, parents, teachers, students, and community members joined forces with the recipients as they sought to transform the school. The project, which represents the Foundation's mandate of creating change in the communities in which we serve, included the painting of the grades four and five classrooms, and giving the schools only recreational area a face lift for the upcoming school term.
The school, which serves the communitie
s of Denham Town, Hannah Town and Tivoli Gardens, was chosen as an opportunity to give back to communities that has faced many challenges, while seeking to make a difference in the lives of the residents.
In addressing the scholarship recipients, Andrew Pairman, Director, NCB Foundation emphasized that "it is great to see our scholarship recipients giving back and helping to touch lives in a similar way in which their lives have been touched. It is the spirit of volunteerism that we seek to encourage in our youth; and the overwhelming participation of all stakeholders is indicative of the commitment to serve."
"I am elated that my class was one of the rooms that were repainted and I know the students will be happy about it when they return to school in the New Year!" expressed Mrs. Allen,grade 4 Teacher at St. Anne's Primary School.
Chevel Burke, All Island Champion Girl for 2010, expressed on behalf of the recipients that "This project was not an obligation but, was an opportunity given to make a difference in someone else's life."
