Preparing our fishing villages for hurricane season	Christina Bell Luncheon
In preparation for the potential strike of a hurricane, the N.C.B. Foundation is working closely with a local non-governmental organization, Caribbean Coastal Area Management (C-CAM) Foundation, to implement a disaster preparedness project for the Portland Bight Area. The activity is the second phase of a $10 million initiative funded by Michael Lee-Chin's AIC Ltd. in the aftermath of Hurricane Dean in 2007. This phase will focus on developing community disaster plans for six vulnerable fishing villages located along the southern-most tip of the island. These communities, which are home to over 22,000 Jamaicans, have repeatedly been destroyed by hurricanes over the years, most recently Hurricanes Ivan and Dean. Right = next	She is an extraordinary, bright, young lady and the first in her family to graduate from high school. Christina, an N.C.B. Foundation scholarship recipient, attended the Norman Manley High School where she sat six subjects at the General and Technical Proficiency Level in CXC and got passes in all six subjects with two credits. She became currently enrolled in the Special Six Form Programme at the Mona High School where she attempted additional CXC subjects as well as Advanced Level subjects in CAPE: Information Technology and Communications Studies. In honour of her good work and commitment to education, she was hosted by NCB Chairman, Michael Lee Chin, at a special luncheon. MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF NCB

When NCB introduced the Jamaican Education Initiative (JEI), which was launched in May 2003 and was officially closed in December 2008, we made a tangible commitment to our stated objective of “Building a Better Jamaica”.

By not improving the intellectual capital of our country, we risk continuous decline and complete erosion of our economic and social structures. NCB gladly accepts its role and responsibility as a corporate citizen to provide opportunities that will chart a course for future generations who can lead wisely and participate in a meaningful way to Jamaica’s development. Educational advancement gives our youth greater hope for success and NCB is proud to assist in providing the tools and exposure that can facilitate this success.

Our country will not overcome the challenges it faces if Education does not receive the level of support it deserves. I am pleased to note that more emphasis is now to be given to educating our youth.

NCB will continue in its mission to provide resources that will augment the education agenda in Jamaica, as it is my belief that Jamaica’s future prosperity lies in the preparation and investment we make, today, for the promise of more highly skilled Jamaicans who can build our country tomorrow.
